The Pennsylvania Family Council is proud to stand alongside over 150 national and state pro-life organizations from all 50 states in a joint letter urging Congress to defund Big Abortion—beginning with Planned Parenthood.
The coalition letter, spearheaded by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, calls on members of Congress to take decisive action during this year’s budget reconciliation process to finally end taxpayer funding for the abortion industry.
“Abortion is the leading cause of death in America and for too long, hard working Americans have been forced to underwrite it,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. “The pro-life movement is fully united around getting taxpayers out of the brutal abortion industry, which kills 1 million babies and harms countless mothers each year.”
As the letter notes, in 2023 alone, Planned Parenthood received $699.3 million in taxpayer dollars while performing nearly 400,000 abortions—roughly 40% of all abortions nationwide.
For Pennsylvania, the impact of Planned Parenthood’s operations has been especially troubling. “Planned Parenthood’s track record in Pennsylvania is one of harm and deception—from failing health inspections to pushing abortion as their top priority while neglecting real healthcare for women.” said Michael Geer, President of the Pennsylvania Family Council. “Taxpayers should not be forced to fund an organization that profits from taking innocent lives and ultimately harm women. It’s time for Congress to finally act and defund Planned Parenthood. Pennsylvania families—and the lives of countless unborn children—deserve better.”
The growing momentum to defund Planned Parenthood follows new developments in Washington. As Fox News reported this week, following President Trump’s 2024 electoral victory and his pardons of pro-life activists, pro-life leaders are now shifting their focus toward cutting off federal funds to abortion providers—most notably through Medicaid, the largest source of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. Congress is currently considering several bills to do just that, including the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2025 and the End Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Providers Act, introduced earlier this year by pro-life lawmakers.
The Fox report also noted that Planned Parenthood spent nearly $70 million in 2024 supporting pro-abortion candidates and ballot initiatives, while receiving almost $700 million in taxpayer funding and performing a record number of abortions. The Trump administration has already moved to freeze millions in federal family-planning grants while reviewing how organizations like Planned Parenthood are using funds to promote controversial diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Here in Pennsylvania, we’ve previously reported on Planned Parenthood’s troubling efforts to influence local school boards and expand their presence in public schools—from promoting radical sex education programs to backing pro-abortion candidates in local elections. Their political reach extends far beyond clinics, targeting the hearts and minds of our children through school policy and curriculum.
This united message sends a clear call to Congress: end taxpayer funding for an industry that harms women, takes innocent lives, and uses millions in public dollars to promote a radical abortion agenda.
