The following is a post-trip account from Michael Kaucher, the Capitol Engagement Director for the Church Ambassador Network at Pennsylvania Family Institute.
Attending the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., is an incredible experience that unites people from all walks of life in the shared commitment to defending the unborn. If there’s one cause that can unite a group of fifty people—many of whom had never met before—it’s the sanctity of life. Friendships began forming early on the morning of January 24th as we embarked on our journey from Lancaster and York to Washington, D.C. Conversations buzzed throughout the couple-hour trip, and even our bus driver was excited to be part of such a significant day.
Upon arrival, we joined the thousands of people from across the nation descending on our capital for the March for Life. Some in our group were seasoned participants, while others were making this powerful journey for the first time. As we made our way to the Washington Monument—the rallying point for the March—we encountered fellow pro-life advocates from all over the country, each sharing the same excitement and deep commitment to the cause. Despite the vast number of attendees, there was an overwhelming sense of respect and care for one another. When you cherish life, that care extends beyond birth to every stage of human existence. It was especially encouraging to witness so many young people present, demonstrating that the pro-life movement is strong and growing.
We were blessed to find a spot near the main stage, where we listened to a dynamic lineup of pro-life advocates and leaders. Groups from other states surrounded us, including a lively and friendly contingent from Florida who quickly became our new friends.
The speakers addressed the crowd with passion and purpose. Among them were Vice President J.D. Vance, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, professional surfer and pro-life advocate Bethany Hamilton, obstetrician Dr. Catherine Wheeler, abortion survivor Josiah Presley, Live Action President Lila Rose, Mama Bear Care CEO Beverly Jacobson, and March for Life President-Elect Jennie Bradley Lichter. Each voice reaffirmed the beauty and dignity of life, energizing us for the March ahead.

Our group was honored by a special visit from newly elected Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick. He made his way through the crowd to personally greet our bus group, a meaningful gesture that spoke to his appreciation for his constituents. Witnessing him engage with fellow Pennsylvanians in the midst of this incredible gathering was a reminder of the impact each voice can have in shaping our nation’s future.
At 1:00 PM, the March began. Our group endeavored to stay together as thousands flowed onto Constitution Avenue, making their way toward the U.S. Capitol. The slow, two-mile walk was filled with energy, joy, and an unwavering commitment to life. Signs were raised, chants echoed through the streets, and songs of hope filled the air. The unity of the moment was undeniable. The theme of this year’s March—“Life: Why We March”—kept us in step, reminding us of the profound purpose behind our efforts. It was easy to imagine God smiling down on us as we walked.
Following the March, we attended a special reception hosted by several U.S. legislators, providing a moment of fellowship and reflection before beginning our journey home. A quick stop at Chick-fil-A for some well-earned food, and soon we were back where we started—tired but deeply fulfilled.
The memories of this powerful day will remain etched in our hearts. Standing together, marching together, and lifting our voices for life, we were reminded that even the simplest acts of advocacy can bring glory to God. Until next year, we remain steadfast in our mission: to defend and celebrate the sanctity of life.
