In response to concerned Pennsylvanians’ thoughts on the so-called Equality Act, Senator Casey has shared a response detailing his support for the bill.
Spread the word to friends and family and tell them to take action here: pafamily.org/equality
While the Equality Act certainly sounds good in Casey’s terms, he’s failed to address the real and severe implications it would have on millions of Americans. You can read our responses to some of his key claims:
Casey: As your United States Senator, I strongly support the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. This Nation was founded on the principles of freedom and equality, not for some, but for all. As a society and a government, we must continue to move toward the ideal of inclusion. I am committed to ensuring that our government provides equal protection under the law for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
PA Family: In reality the Equality Act would not provide equal protection; instead, it would be used as a weapon against religious people and institutions. It would remove conscience and religious freedom protections, remove Title IX protections for fair women’s sports, jeopardize bodily privacy in bathrooms, changing areas, and showers, force doctors to assist with gender reassignment procedures, stifle biblical opinions on marriage, and more.
Casey: On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court issued a decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, finding that marriage is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. As a result, all states are required to issue marriage licenses and recognize marriages performed in other states of same-sex couples. I believe the Supreme Court made the right decision that will ensure all couples are treated with dignity and are able to enter into marriage with the person they love.
PA Family: Justice Alito observed that the Obergefell decision would “be used to vilify Americans who are unwilling to assent to the new orthodoxy.” Obergefell v. Hodges, 135 S. Ct. 2584, 2642 (2015). He went on to predict what we see today with the Equality Act: “I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools.” Id. at 2642-43. That, at core, is the danger of this bill. The Equality Act seeks to equate people with biblical beliefs about marriage and biological sex exactly like the law treats racial bigots.
Casey: I have heard from many Pennsylvanians about the importance of these protections. One letter I received from a seventh grader in Southeastern Pennsylvania stands out to me. In the letter, the boy told me he “recently heard that LGBTQ+ individuals have no protections against being fired in Pennsylvania. I have two moms, one is a nurse and the other has been a teacher for 17 years. They are hardworking individuals who provide for my sister and me. I do not think it is fair to be fired for who you love.” As a Senator, I cannot, in good conscience, take a position that denies these parents or children the full measure of equality and respect.
PA Family: Based on the Bostock decision that Sen. Casey referenced in the preceding paragraph, these two women cannot be fired. Nor would they be. People aren’t being fired or denied housing, medical care, or a sandwich because of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Instead, what the advocates want and what the bill would do is:
- Punish religious employers, like Christian schools, if they do not hire LGBT staff;
- Open up dorms so that your daughter’s roommate would be determined by gender identity, not by sex;
- Open up women’s shelters to men;
- Open bathrooms, changing areas, and showers to the opposite sex;
- Allow men who identify as women to compete in women’s sports;
- Shut down religious foster care if such agencies seek to exclusively place children in homes with a mother and father;
- Force doctors to remove healthy body parts from those who want gender-reassignment surgery;
- Force doctors to stop the puberty of children and inject opposite sex hormones into kids, and;
- Require wedding service providers to support same-sex weddings that they oppose for conscience reasons. And the list goes on.

Me and my husband are against the Equality Act , as it is against our Judeo Christian beliefs which our country was founded on.
Stop this act
Please 🛑 it!
I am completely against the Equality act. It is against my beliefs and the beliefs of my family.
I strongly oppose the equity act and it’s attack on traditional and biblical values – vote no
I strongly oppose the equity act and it’s attack on traditional and biblical values – vote no to its passage in the Senate
My husband and I are against the Equity Act. We believe that parents should make decisions for their children until they are of legal age. We believe that if we stand for this act we, as Christians, would be going against all of our Christian beliefs.
I strongly urge a vote NO on this Equity Act as it is certainly not equitable in any decent way.
Please vote NO on the Equality Act. Reasons/outcomes are quite obvious for those with eyes to ser and ears to hear. Reminder: those who vote yes on this act will, one day, stand in judgment before God Almighty and have to give an account of their actions. These actions have an ETERNAL impact on their salvation.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, MALE and FEMALE he created them.Genesis 1:27 God determines gender. Anything else is confusion or sin.
As a frail, elderly woman, I am appalled that I may find myself in a public restroom with a biological male. If I have to be placed in a nursing home or hospital, will I have to share a room with a biological male? Where are the protections for me and my civil rights?
How frustrating to express my views and concerns regarding bills and laws that are being voted on, and then to have Senator Casey just spew the democratic platform and then to leave out portions of “truth” to his constituents just re-inforces the populace’s belief that we can’t trust our representatives in Harrisburg. The majority of them need to be “primaried out.” That’s why they are trying to push legislature that would make it almost impossible for “we the people” to vote them out!!!
I have grandchildren and I will not be comfortable with a biological male being in the same bathroom
God created male and female there is no in between
This is not right. Everything is against Gods word
Me and my family and my extended church family are deeply opposed to the so called equity act as it would strip us of our rights to live in accordance to our Christian beliefs .
This bill does not help people in the LGBT community, it discriminates and punishes those with a Biblical worldview. It also hurts our young people and takes away protection from young women. VOTE NO
The only true marriage is between a man and a woman. That is Gods’s law. A so called marriage between 2 of same sex people is a man made law. I reject this man made law.
I also reject laws that allow men into women’s bathrooms and vice versa. This is also a man made law. I totally reject this planned Equality Act. It is WRONG.
Please vote No on the Equity Act– Our world is in chaos enough & it doesn’t need to be brainwashing our young children to confusion of if they should be a boy or girl. God designed each of us with a plan- Stand on that Truth!!!! We are who our Creator designed us to be!
Thanks for reading this.
I BELIEVE SENATOR YOU SHOULD LOOK AT EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THAT IS AFFECTED FOR CHILDREN AND CHRISTAIN FAMILIES AND VOTE NO IN THIS MATTER.
Please vote no on this bill. I believe God made two sex. If people want to practice the other lifestyle that’s there problem but don’t make it the normal . Children have enough to worry about than to be afraid of going to the bathroom in public places. I am elderly and won’t want go in one either.
I am the grandmother of 3 beautiful granddaughters. Ages 4, 11 and 17. This law is beyond disturbing to me as to what they may have to face in their futures because of it. We are a Christian family and teach our children right from wrong morally. This law is frightening. Parents should be the deciding factor always until that child is of age. This law takes that away. A downright scary and dangerous law for any American Christian or not!
Senator Casey like too many politicians are just that politicians. They seem to forget, for their own political gain, the Biblical morals, principles, and values that our nation was founded own and why God has blessed this nation. Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people. These lifestyles these politicians reference are sin in the sight of God no matter how much they want to try and justify them.
Why does my 18-yr-old daughter have to be competing with former males in sports, or abused women in shelters have to deal with any male demanding a bed, as happened in Alaska? Why is Cal senator talking about fining stores that have separate boys and girls clothing areas? Why can’t people accept their X and Y chromosomes and follow the science? This is becoming insane!
While I respect everyone, I love Jesus more and pray that you’ll vote against this bill
I do not agree with this bill. Please vote against this bill.
Please, please vote against this bill.
The HR 5 is NOT for equality, as it is against our religious (God given) rights!!
Please I beg you, prayerfully ask God for guidance and to bless you with the moral strength to do what is truly God’s will!
Please be fearful of the Lord!
Please vote NO
My husband & I STRONGLY URGE you to VOTE NO on the Equality Act bill and all its compromises. This is a dangerous bill for parents, people of faith and the list goes on. How can you justify voting in favor of such a bill that makes the public expression of our rights as citizens of the United States under our Constitution illegal? And LGBTQ+ citizens of the USA are already protected under the law. If you Senator Casey are “committed to ensuring that our government provides equal protection under the law for all” you should vote NO to this Equality Act which is NOT for equality for all but only to a minority and takes away the rights of the majority!
This is NOT equality !!!!
Please ask God for wisdom and for His will!!
This so called “Equality Act” is against christain beliefs !
You have the duty to protect us !
Please do your job!
Thankyou
