The House State Government Committee on Wednesday passed, in a majority vote, a resolution protesting the extent and pervasive nature of TSA procedures, but not without debate.Rep. Will Tallman, R-Adams, York, the resolution’s prime sponsor, said he’s seen “the gradual deterioration” of personal rights at the hands of the TSA.House Resolution 16 urges Congress to limit the use of advanced imaging technology and pat-downs, on the grounds that such actions violate the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as well as Article I, Section 8 of the state constitution.
Randall Wenger, of Pennsylvania Family Council, testified last March in support of this resolution. Here’s a quote from his testimony:
Naked scans and pat-downs that include touching breasts and genitals are intolerable and unconstitutional. In a free country we owe something better to our spouses, our children, and the traveling public. When we subject ourselves to this constant indignity, the terrorists win. While it is appropriate to take precautions, in a free country we must be vigilant to maintain our liberties while responding invasively only when there is probable cause.
Pennsylvania Family Council applauds the passage of House Resolution 16 and hopes to see it pass the full House soon.
