Compassion without clear thinking is dangerous. The recent vote on SB9, a commonsense bill designed to protect girls’ sports, exposes the glaring problem with how many politicians—particularly Senate Democrats—approach gender ideology. Rather than applying rational, science-based reasoning, they substitute real solutions for empty gestures and ideological loyalty.
Every single Democrat in the U.S. Senate, including Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman, voted against SB9. That’s not a coincidence. It’s a pattern. And it’s a reckless one.
Fetterman himself made his ideological loyalty clear when he dismissed legitimate concerns about the growing push to allow males into female sports. Instead of debating the actual impact on fairness, safety, and science, he offered this emotionally charged but intellectually empty statement:
“The small handful of trans athletes in PA in a political maelstrom deserve an ally, and I am one.”
Who is actually in the political maelstrom? The young girls who are losing their scholarships and opportunities? The female athletes forced into unfair competitions? The parents who are silenced for raising concerns about their daughter’s safety? Fetterman’s version of “compassion” ignores them completely.
He continued:
“Depersonalized as ‘they/them’ in a political ad, but are just schoolchildren.”
Yes, schoolchildren. But what about the female schoolchildren being forced to compete against males? The ones being denied fairness because of the very policies Fetterman supports? His rhetoric isn’t about dignity—it’s about appearing empathetic while refusing to apply rational thinking or scientific reasoning.
Fetterman’s attempt to paint transgender athletes as mere “schoolchildren” ignores the real experiences of young women like Paula Scanlan, a former University of Pennsylvania swimmer who was forced to share a locker room with Lia (William) Thomas. In response to Fetterman’s statement, Scanlan fired back:
This is the reality that Fetterman and every Senate Democrat chose to ignore when they voted against protecting female athletes. They claim to stand for “inclusion,” but what they are actually supporting is the erasure of women’s rights, safety, and dignity in sports and locker rooms.
Blind Compassion Without Objective Truth Is Harmful
This is not about hating anyone. It’s about protecting vulnerable people from policies that are actually harming them. The same emotional appeal that led Fetterman and his colleagues to vote against SB9 is driving policies like government-funded name-change grants for transgender individuals—another misguided effort that ignores science in favor of ideological conformity and false empathy.
Let’s be clear: there is no medical evidence that transitioning—whether through name changes, hormone treatments, or surgeries—actually improves mental health outcomes. The opposite is true.
- A massive study of 107,583 transgender-identifying patients found that those who underwent gender transition surgery were more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation than those who did not.
- Long-term estrogen use in males has been linked to neurological damage, brain shrinkage, and increased risk of dementia.
- Research on gender medicine fails to show improvements in psychosocial well-being, despite political claims to the contrary.
So why is the government looking to subsidize this ideology and these interventions?
Because politicians like Fetterman refuse to challenge the radical ideology they’ve pledged loyalty to. While their virtue signaling posts of empathy on social media make for good sound bites, it is actually encouraging ideology that is factually harming children and destroying families.
Selective “Empathy” That Hurts Women
Tonight, during his address to a joint session of Congress., President Donald Trump is set to highlight the real-world consequences of radical gender ideology by hosting Payton McNabb, a 19-year-old female athlete who suffered a traumatic brain injury after a male spiked a volleyball into her head. Her presence is a stark reminder that this debate is not just about identity—it’s about safety, fairness, and real physical harm. While politicians like Fetterman and Senate Democrats dismiss concerns over males competing in female sports, McNabb’s injury is proof that ignoring science has serious and irreversible consequences for young girls. Gender ideology doesn’t just harm gender-confused children—it actively endangers female athletes who are forced into unfair and unsafe competition.
SB9 should have been an easy decision. The bill isn’t banning transgender people from playing sports—it’s simply saying that males should not compete against females.
Yet, every single Democrat voted against it.
This is what happens when activism replaces common sense. Politicians like Fetterman claim to be standing with the marginalized, but in reality, they are empowering an ideology that causes real harm—not just to female athletes, but to the very people they claim to be helping.
Instead of throwing taxpayer dollars at programs that push vulnerable individuals further into medicalized transitions with severe risks, lawmakers should be advocating for real mental health care, real support, and real science-based solutions.
But that would require courage, critical thinking, caring about their constituents above party loyalty, and a willingness to break from the activist mob that seems to be in control of the Democrat party.
So far, we’ve seen none of that from Fetterman and Senate Democrats. And that should concern every Pennsylvanian.
The fight for fairness, safety, and common sense in women’s sports isn’t just happening in Washington—it’s happening right here in Pennsylvania. With every single Democrat in the U.S. Senate voting against SB9, it’s clear that we cannot rely on Washington politicians to protect our daughters and female athletes. That’s why state-level action is critical.
Pennsylvania’s SB9 (HB158 in the House) is a vital piece of legislation that would ensure girls’ sports remain fair and safe, but it needs your support. Make your voice heard by contacting your state legislators and demanding they stand up for women and girls.
