As a baby boomer, I grew up in the midst of the Cold War . My school had a fallout shelter, we practiced what to do in case of nuclear attack, and we understood the grave threat posed by the Communists in the Soviet Union and elsewhere. And one word I always attached to the Soviets – and the things they said – was “propaganda.” It was as if those two words exclusively went together. Soviet Propaganda. Purposeful untruths created and repeated to advance a nefarious agenda.
So, it was a bit of a shock to me – perhaps I’m a bit naïve – to realize that the hysterical criticism of the Hobby Lobby – Conestoga Wood Supreme Court decision – coming even from some of our top elected officials – was in itself propaganda – American Propaganda. I don’t like attaching that word to our great country and its leaders. But there is no other way to describe this “war on women” nonsense. And when the shoe fits, well…
