Preserving Religious Freedom
Pennsylvania was established as a place where religious liberty is to be valued and protected – a “Holy Experiment” in the words of the Commonwealth’s founder, William Penn. Those freedoms took root here in Pennsylvania, and as hammered out at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, became the basis of our First Freedoms in the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Our right to religious freedom allows for us to exercise our deepest convictions, recognizing that no government has authority over one’s conscience or religious convictions.
