Governor Tom Wolf’s Executive Action Harms Business, Charities, Respect for Government
(HARRISBURG – April 7, 2016) – Despite record-low approval ratings in the latest polls, Gov. Wolf nevertheless singlehandedly bypassed the legislature today to impose part of his top special-interest agenda on Pennsylvania.
“Under two executive orders signed today, PA is closed for business unless you agree with Gov. Wolf,” said Michael Geer, President of the Pennsylvania Family Council. “He’s ordering something that could very well exclude thousands of good people from doing business with their own state IN their own state,” added Geer.Wolf’s orders add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity or expression” mandates to thousands of organizations and charities that contract with or receive grants from the state. The full scope of the various charities impacted is yet to be seen.

“All Pennsylvanians deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and Pennsylvania is already a tolerant state,” said Geer. “But in this end-run around the General Assembly, Gov. Tom Wolf is showing intolerance for the democratic process, and disrespect to idea of the ‘consent of the governed.’” While other governors are willing to protect the safety, privacy, and freedom of everyone in their states our governor is acting alone in ordering everyone to comply with his decrees or they’re not eligible to freely compete for state business.
In addition, these executive orders will put the onus on many faith-inspired charities that serve needy Pennsylvanians to prove they are doing Gov. Wolf’s bidding or face complete cut-off of state funds.
Pennsylvania Family Council calls on Gov. Wolf to withdraw these unjust orders.
