Today, the Pennsylvania State House Health Committee passed HB 1890, a bill that requires healthcare facilities to properly handle disposition (burial or cremation) of unborn children who have died from an abortion or miscarriage. This bill is similar to one passed in the state of Indiana that was recently upheld as constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Thank you to Chairman Kathy Rapp (R-Warren), lead sponsor Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon), and all of the Republican members of the House Health committee who voted to pass this bill on to the House floor. All of the Democrats in the committee voted against it. The final vote was 15-10. In the midst of the debate, Rep. Wendy Ullman (D-Bucks), wanted to know why the legislature should go to all this fuss for just “a mess on a napkin.”

HB 1890 now goes to the full House for a vote. Please contact your state representative and ask them to vote Yes on HB 1890, to uphold the dignity and humanity of unborn children. Use our Legislative Lookup tool to find your state representative.
