BREAKING: Court Authorizes “Personal Ruin” on Woman For Believing in Traditional Marriage

February 18, 2015 | 3 comments | Posted in Religious Freedom | Tags: , ,

A judge has declared summary judgment against Barronelle Stutzman – the owner of Arlene’s Flowers that was sued by both the state of Washington and two men over not providing flowers for a same-sex wedding ceremony. Without even going to trial, the court ordered that both the state of Washington and the same-sex couple can collect damages and attorney’s fees against both her business assets and her personal home and savings.

“The message of these rulings is unmistakable: the government will bring about your personal and professional ruin if you don’t help celebrate same-sex marriage,” said her attorney Kristen Waggoner.

Waggoner continued saying, “The two men had no problem getting the flowers they wanted. They received several offers for free flowers, and the marketplace gives them plenty of options. Laws that are supposed to prohibit discrimination might sound good, but the government has begun to use these laws to hurt people – to force them to conform and to silence and punish them if they don’t violate their religious beliefs on marriage.”

And here’s Barronelle Stutzman’s own reaction: “America would be a better place if citizens respected each others’ differences and the government still protected the freedom to have those differences. Instead, the government is coming after me and everything I have just because I won’t live my life the way the state says I should. I just want the freedom to live and work faithfully and according to what God says about marriage without fear of punishment. Others have the freedom to say or not say what they want to about marriage, and that’s all I’m asking for as well.”

Please pray for Barronelle Stutzman. Her attorneys estimate that she faces crippling fines and costs in the seven-figure range. The case was scheduled to go to trial in March. But the judge declared a summary judgment and simply decided to side against Barronelle without having witnesses testify – saying she violated the state’s Law Against Discrimination and their Consumer Protection Act.

And please pray and take action to protect our freedoms in Pennsylvania. What’s happening to Barronelle will happen throughout Pennsylvania if Rep. Dan Frankel gets his controversial bill – HB 300 – through the legislature.
