Breaking the Media Silence: The Whole Gosnell Story

With the prolonged silence in the media on the trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, there is a lack of information available about what really happened. We need to break the silence. We need to educate ourselves with the right resources available and do our part to let others know.

We recommend both the following brief summary and a more in-depth analysis – including the Grand Jury report from 2011 – into the case of Abortionist Kermit Gosnell:

In-Depth Analysis: Grand Jury Report (2011)

An Overview

This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.

On January 19, 2011, a Grand Jury released findings of its investigation into criminal wrongdoing at the Women’s Medical Society, a clinic operated in West Philadelphia, at 38th Street and Lancaster Avenue by Kermit B. Gosnell, M.D. The investigation was launched after drug agents raided the clinic and learned of the death of an abortion patient who suffered cardiac arrest after Gosnell’s employees gave her lethal doses of narcotics.

The Cover-Up
For over 20 years, the Pennsylvania Departments of State and Health, as well as the Philadelphia Department of Public Health had ample cause and opportunity to investigate and shut down the Women’s Medical Society. Year after year they failed to act, allowing Gosnell to continue to hurt women and children.  R. Seth William’s Report to the Grand Jury gives two reasons for this inaction…

  1.  In 1993, “the Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics…The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro.  With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be ‘putting a barrier up to women’ seeking abortions.  Better to leave clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and babies would pay.” (Page 9)
  2. “We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color, because the victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion.” (Page 13)

Why is this story worth telling?
