With State Budget Facing Deadline, We May See More School Choice in Pennsylvania!

As PA House and Senate leaders and Gov. Corbett hammer out a state budget with the June 30th deadline looming, we hear that there is a window of opportunity to expand school choice in Pennsylvania! A school choice bill – House Bill 2468 – would expand our already successful Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and create new EISC scholarships.

The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) is set up to allow organizations (like our Family Choice Scholarship Program) receive donations in order to help Pennsylvania parents send their children to the school of their choice. But more is needed. Every year there are more families who need help to choose a school that is better for their child’s education, their safety, their faith and values.

The new Educational Improvement Scholarship Credits (EISC) would help give both low and middle income students access to more educational options. This category would help students in neighborhoods of some of the lowest performing public schools in the state.
