HB 972 – Fairness in Women’s Sports Act passes 115-84

(Harrisburg, PA) Tuesday, April 12, 2022

In a strong, bipartisan vote late this afternoon, the PA House of Representatives passed HB 972, the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, by a vote of 115-84.

“This important bill preserves decades of hard-won opportunities gained for women and girls in sports – something now under attack as women are being forced to compete against biological men,” said Alexis Sneller of the Pennsylvania Family Institute.

“This bill recognizes that identities don’t play sports – bodies do, and it ensures that athletics will be separated by sex, thereby preserving a fair playing field for girls and women,” added Sneller.

Pennsylvania Family Institute commends the lead sponsors of the legislation, Reps. Barb Gleim, Martina White, Valerie Gaydos, Stephanie Borowicz and Dawn Keefer for their effective leadership in bringing this important bill to final passage.

The bill now goes to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration.  Earlier this week, the Senate Education Committee passed similar legislation.  Recent polling by Spry Strategies for the Women’s Liberation Front and the American Principles Project reported nearly 75% of Pennsylvanians supporting protecting women’s sports.
