Salute the Scouts for Standing Strong on Morals

This week, the Boy Scouts national office announced that “after a nearly two-year-long examination” by an 11-member panel commissioned by the chief scout executive, the Scouts will maintain their membership policy excluding homosexual scoutmasters and scouts from membership – and requiring scouts and their leaders to subscribe to the Scout Oath:

“On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.”
– Scout Oath

The Boy Scouts of America have been attacked many times because of their strong moral policies, and yet they continue to stand their ground. Even when they were threatened with eviction by the City of Philadelphia:

The City of Philadelphia fought the exclusionary policy by unsuccessfully attempting to evict the local chapter of the Boy Scouts — the Cradle of Liberty Council — from their landmark headquarters building.

A jury determined in a 2010 federal court trial that the city violated the Scouts’ First Amendment rights.

Salute the Scouts for standing strong for their beliefs. And may this encourage all of us to stand strong for what is right.
