AP: “Abortions are down.” But not for Planned Parenthood?

The Associated Press just recently highlighted that abortion is down in nearly every state since 2010.

Here in Pennsylvania, abortion is actually down 17% since 2008 – as we highlighted in our State of Abortion in Pennsylvania 2015 report (download for free at AbortionisPersonal.org). Statewide abortions have since gone down by over 6,600 annually – which can be attributed to multiple factors like the availability of ultrasound imaging or alternatives to abortion (over 200 pregnancy care centers) or simply the general population turning more pro-life.

That’s encouraging – but another related trend is quite disturbing: Planned Parenthood’s market share on abortion is expanding.

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in Pennsylvania – performing over half of all abortions in the state. Even though abortion rates are dropping, the number of annual abortions in Pennsylvania that are done by Planned Parenthood have increased by over 1,200 since 2008.

Planned Parenthood is setting records in Pennsylvania for both the highest number of abortions they’ve ever performed and for receiving the highest amount of taxpayer dollars (over $7 million in 2013). All this while abortion rates are at all-time lows and a growing budget deficit looms.
