Opinion: Is there any common ground on abortion?

A few weeks ago I participated in a debate at the University of Pittsburgh on the question of whether women considering abortion should have access to ultrasound technology, or should the physician alone decide what is appropriate medical information to share with the patient. The audience was pre-polled, identified as overwhelmingly pro-choice, and included professors, medical students and a contingent of physicians who routinely performed abortions. As a proponent for the Women’s Right to Know Law, this wasn’t exactly my crowd, but the debate was a wonderful example of civility and respect. It was an opportunity for both sides to listen and learn, and that’s what I came to do.
