Expanding Gambling – Insanity?

Michael Geer with Monday’s Family Update:

It’s often said that one of the definitions of insanity is repeating the same behavior and expecting different results.

That being said, one must conclude our political leaders are insane to consider bringing even more government-sponsored gambling into Pennsylvania.

Yes, rather than make the difficult decisions to pare down spending, Governor Rendell and other leaders are proposing that we balance the budget by allowing table games at the slot-machine-only casinos, and legalizing video poker at bars, taverns and other liquor-licensed establishments.

So far, the results of slots gambling in Pennsylvania has been crime and corruption, and a political system damaged and distorted by millions of campaign contributions from casino owners.

To think this will turn out differently is insane.
